Application:
1.Superconducting applications: Niobium is an element with high critical temperature for superconducting properties. The alloy made of niobium has a critical temperature as high as absolute temperature 18.50 to 210, making it an important superconducting material at present.
2.High temperature alloys: A large portion of niobium in the world is used in pure metallic form or in the form of high-purity niobium iron and niobium nickel alloys for the production of nickel, chromium, and iron-based high-temperature alloys. These alloys can be used in jet engines, gas turbine engines, rocket components, turbochargers, and heat-resistant combustion equipment.
3.Steel application: Among various microalloying elements in steel, waste niobium is an effective microalloying element. The role of niobium is so significant that iron atoms contain abundant niobium atoms, which can improve the performance of steel. In fact, adding 0.001% -0.1% niobium to steel is sufficient to change its mechanical properties.
4.Coins: Niobium is sometimes used together with gold and silver on commemorative coins as a precious metal.
5.Other niobium (or doped with 1% zirconium) is the sealing material for high-pressure sodium lamp arc tubes, as the thermal expansion coefficient of niobium is very similar to that of sintered alumina arc lamp ceramic materials.
